Register DLL

There are many different causes for dll errors. The most common causes are improperly uninstalling programs from your computer. This can sometimes lead to DLL files that are used by other applications to be deleted as well. DLL errors are also commonly caused by accidentally deleting a necessary DLL file. These two common mistakes often lead to missing or corrupted DLL file error messages.

However, not all DLL errors are due to corrupted or missing DLL files. DLL files can sometimes be unregistered by accident. The most common cause of DLL files becoming unregistered is that they have had their file extensions changed. Changing the file extension of DLL files causes the applications that use that DLL file to be unable to locate it because it is being stored under a different file name. The errors generated by DLL files being unregistered or having the file extensions changed can easily be corrected by re-registering the DLL file.

While most DLL files are self-registering, you may need to manually register your DLL files as .dll extensions to eliminate the DLL errors occurring on your computer. Following is a guide to re-registering your DLL files.

To register dll files:

1. Click “run” on the task bar

2. In the available space type regsvr32 “ \nameoffile.dll”

3. Press enter. If the register dll was successful, a popup message will appear.

If re-registering the DLL files does not clear up the error messages, the errors may not be caused by unregistered DLL files. In this case, re-installing the application generating the errors will usually re-install any necessary DLL files that have become missing or corrupt.
